Plants In the Nile River
A few of the plants that live in the Nile are the Lotus Flower and The Papyrus Reed. The Lotus Flower will grow in shallow and murky waters and are much like Lilies. They can NOT tolerate cold weather and die in the Winter. To keep themselves afloat, they have long stems that contain air spaces. The Papyrus Plant is a type of reed that lives in marshy areas. They do not live all the way in the water, they live in the mud (marsh) on the banks of the Nile. This plant can reach up to about 4-5 meters in height and has a triangular shaped top with sharp leaves that sort of looks like a pom-pom. In ancient Egypt, they used this plant to make a scroll so that they could record history. These sharp leaves can grow up to 50 cm long! Farther for the shores of the Nile River, the crops wheat and corn grow. They grow in the "Nile River Valley". The soil in the Nile River is mud, around it is sand, and contains many nutrients which makes it easy to grow in.
